| Well it was literally in the middle of nowhere I went to see Honkey , I couldn't really understand their urgency with him over the phone but obviously they wanted him gone asap. After wading through some deep grass finally we found him with another donkey behind a single strand of electric fence . After a moment or two I couldn't resist so scrambled under the fence to get a closer look , with that the owners had a complete look of horror over their faces swiftly followed by " oh my god be careful !" or words to that effect in French . Of course not wishing to show any fear I watched carefully to see which end of who was about to cause me some pain and quickly Honkey pushed by and clearly wanted a chew so I held his head in my arms so at least I had some control In no time at all it was agreed that I would come and get him in a couple of days giving me time to hire a trailer etc and prepare where he was going to go being an entire donk and not really wanting a population explosion of mules ( well I tell a lie there really as I love mules ) The evening came when all was arranged to go and get him , the whole family had turned up to watch the 'spectacle' of the mad english women who actually wanted this donkey . The look on their faces was priceless along with regular chuckles. Two of the family held the fence up high but clearly Honkey was not too impressed about the idea of leaving his safe corner but as I guess is normal with donks when he decided it was ok we were OFF , you know that Bolt guy had nothing on us with the speed we crossed the field , my elbow firmly fixed against him for some direction assistance in this wilderness of grass . Rather obligingly we ended up at the back of the trailer where ( when the family finally caught up it was very clear they were not going to come within metres of him Now I thought this is going to be fun so grabbed some grass with one hand a sprinkled it onto the rather large step into the trailer . To my great surprise after a minute or two Honkey leapt into the trailer so I called to them to shut the door . Dad got delegated and his face appeared at the back with arms as long as he could stretch them and the whites of his eyes I shall never forget but at least he managed that Wanting to get off as soon as possible I said my thankyous , met again with astonishment and trying hard not to laugh Here he is , first job was getting him castrated Here are some before and afters when he meets his new girlfriend Beth ( minus his bits poor fellow )

| Yes they are both great ! Beth came to me from a really lovely couple who through health problems and a return to the UK soon were seeking a home for her with another donkey , at the same time I was looking for donkey company for Honkey so a perfect match , they are so funny together , never apart I always think donkeys should have their own kind as company too , they get very attached | |

| yes donkeys & shetlands really know how to train inexperienced owners to their own way don't they? a yard i was on in Uk had on part livery a tiny white shet mare about 9 hh her owner was a massive retired miner who bought her for his grand kids, on nice days grandad would walk her and them out & then go home to grandma to have a garden picnic & grass graze, so far so good. till tuppence decided going 'home' for a picnic was far more fun then coming in from the field to her stable, and used to lock her neck and drag the guy off up the road for over a mile at mini pony trot, not that fast but a bit much for the old man, so he now had to ask us to get a kid to bring her in for him as he just couldn't hold her he was so big & her so small i am sure he could have picked her up. bye | |
