What are these normandy trec days? can you tell me a bit more about them and how you join, if it's joinable? does anybody else on here have anything to do with them? If it's what it sounds like ,then I would love to do it

Hopefully someone will come online soon with more information who has done Trec , I agree it looks fun .
The numbers in the list such as 27 , 14 , 50 etc are Departments in Normandie

Hi all I have done a few trecs now. they are great fun and you are out all day with your horse which I think is better than show jumping for 3 minuets. Plus you cannot be eliminated!!!! You must have a licence from the ffe The actual trec consists of orienteering on your horse of course and that takes about 2 to 3 hours, 20 or so kilometers. then you have control of paces where you have to canter for 100 meters as slow as possible then walk the same distance as fast as possible without breaking into trot. Then normally you have a break for dinner then you have an obstacle course which can include opening gates jumping a small jump going under "low branches" going up and down slopes or steps making your horse stand still for 10 seconds while you are about a meter away, getting on the wrong side and anything else they can think of. and everyone goes home with a prize at the end of the day. So I hope a few of you will give it a go.

Oh that all sounds like such fun but the only things that worry me are 'the mounting from the ground' never mind the wrong side and the cantering as slow as you can on a FRENCH TROTTER!
Are you allowed to use one of those stirrup mounting aids? 'Cos at my height 5'1" and Robbia is 15.3 hh I can't manage that bit!

Hi that's the beauty of trec if you can't do something you just tell the judge and carry on to the next obstacle and lose 10 points I often miss out the jump because I'm a whimp. Lots of people can't do all of it and it just doesn't matter there is no pressure to do anything you are not comfortable with.

Oh, well that's brilliant, so what is the other thingy is it the licence thing that you have to get if you ride at an equestrian centre?

I get a licence just by writing to Philippe Compere ( la manche ) but I just hack at the moment when I can
I'll route his details out you enclose a cheque depending on your age and should receive it within a couple of weeks

Sylvie at the centre got them for us and I have a feeling that it ran out in September, I think they're for 1 year only aren't they?

Well yesterday Rosemary and I went to meet Denise aka 'Basilbrush'. She was doing the Trec thingy at Montigny so we went to see what it's all about and we are now totally hooked and in awe of Denise She's brilliant!!! (so's Willy ,her horse, he's gorgeous)
It was a great day out and we can't wait to have a go too

Hi, first of all I have got to make my excuses for having a very bad position, my stirrups are 4 holes to long because one of the obstacles was mount from the wrong side and the only way I can do that is to have very long stirrups. Now I know this competition isn't exactly adrenalin pumping but it is quite technical, and it's just about right for me. The first photo is navigating your way around an s bend without knocking any poles off. The second one is going through a rope gate without letting go of the rope. and the third was going up a small step unfortunately I was already at the top when they took the photo. all in all I had a very enjoyable day and an added bonus it hardly rain at all.

Thanks very much for the info Denise , I think I speak for a lot of members here when I say its great to see members having a go at all of the disciplines and I've no doubt it will wet the appetite of those able and willing to have a go . that s bend WAS very tight and there was only one other person along with Denise that didn't knock any of the poles off..............and look how flimsy those poles are!
