Dry, scaly Skin Empty
PostSubject: Dry, scaly Skin   Dry, scaly Skin EmptyWed May 05, 2010 1:32 am

I would really appreciate some advice. Since Kadum was ill he has lost his lovely glossy coat and now suffers with very bad dry, scaly skin, like dandruff Embarassed I groom him every day but feel it is too cold to bath him at the moment. Have tried an Aloe Vera spray that somebody recommended but this is not really helping. Anyone got any helpful suggestions???

Thanks.

Hi
Maybe try some oils in his feed , I have been using some prepared linseed oil that I got from the UK but now I've run out I'll probably just add veggy oil or olive oil , I've had a horse thats just been through the same and shes starting to look better , been feeding sugar beet pulp with the oil in and bits of other stuff like " mais floconné " ( like yellow corn flakes )

hopefully some more ideas soon from our lovely members geek

Thanks Cally, He has a mineral lick and I do give him oil in his Pasture Mix, used to add sugar beet and barley but he went off that and just ate his Pasture mix but now he is leaving that, just prefers the grass

I guess if he's up to date on worming then maybe the grass will do the trick Smile

Hi rosemary, I wouldn't worry too much, the fact that kadum has been so ill, it's perfectly natural that his coat[skin] will suffer for a while, bearing in mind that the coat is the mirror of health. I would put 100 -150 mls of veg. oil in his feed. I would, brush, brush and brush him to stimulate his skin to work for itself and let him have as much Dr. Green [grass] as he feels he needs. I personally would not bath him. I'm so pleased for you that he has turned the corner and is on the road to recovery.

Thanks Pen for your very useful advice Smile I have been grooming him loads and have not bathed him yet. He is soo much better in himself. I just love him to bits. I think his illness has made us much closer and he loves his 'mummy" very much Laughing

Are you back from your week with Kelly Marks? Would you do a post on it, I am sure that I am not the only one interested in how you got on. Maybe you could give us all lessons - cheers

I'm so pleased to hear Kadum is doing so well, I'm sure that illness or injury can help form an incredible bond between us, it certainly did for my boy and me, I guess it's the only time we spend so much time, "one on one". I had an incredible time at Hartsop Farm, with Kelly and her team, I will do a post on it soon, I just want to concentrate on the Epona day at the moment.
