DATE change 20th Feb -Randonnée -South east of Falaise -14700

L'association des cavalier du traine feuilles organise une rando le samedi 13 février sur le secteur de Falaise (14700).

Pour celles ou ceux qui souhaitent participer, merci de nous confirmer votre présence par mail.
voici les infos plus précises sur la randonnée du 13 février prochain.

Pour les cavaliers avec leurs chevaux, majeurs ou accompagné d'un responsable légal ;
- un départ vers 9h30 sur la hoguette
- un départ vers 9h30 sur vignats
- prendre pique pour le midi et éventuellement tapis pour son cheval
- arrivée sur le lieu du départ 45 à 60 min avant pour préparer sa monture
- matin rando de 20 à 24 km, trois allures, des tronçons spécifiques pour celles ou ceux qui veulent pousser un peu leurs montures
- pique nique sur le terrain juxtaposant la piscine de Falaise ( parking devant ) arrivée vers 13h00. Possibilité de retrouver sa petite famille pour partager son pique nique
- possibilité pour ceux qui veulent s'arrêter de reprendre leurs chevaux ( dans ce cas prévoir de déposer les chevaux avant sur le lieu du départ )
- du foin et de l'eau seront à dispo pour les chevaux

départ pour le retour vers 14h00 14h30 - distance de 10 à 13 km - retour en détente

majorité de chevaux, double poney.

I SO want to do something like this but need to get Robbia fit first but I'm working on that now. Think I need something a bit closer and shorter to start with. Are these quite casual affairs, do you know?

I haven't done one yet but I imagine there would be various levels of rider and horses / pony's turn up so you could choose where you are comfortable , with this particular one the outward leg consists of walk trot and canter and the return after the picnic just steady cool down
Hopefully some of our members have already done these

My biggest problem is mounting from the ground Has a backpack/ mounting block been invented yet? You know , something that you can haul up after you've scrambled on?

I know what you mean my girl is 16.1 hh and I scale banks to hop on but I have heard of an extension mini ladder type thing that attaches to your stirrup - anyone know

Really? you mean there is such a thing? right I'm going to surf the net now in search of the answer to my problem (well one of them anyway!)

Well if I'm going to go on a trek then I am going to need something and I have seen three now.
a. is basically another stirrup but longer and it says to put your right foot in the stirrup(aid) and then QUICKLY put your left foot in your normal stirrup and mount as per normal! Sounds easy but I foresee a problem with the 'quickly' bit and think I may even end up backwards!
b. is like a mini tripod stool with a cord attached and you just use it like a mounting block and pull up the stool (which I presume must fold) and there you go. Again sounds easy but I think I may end up doing 0 to 60 faster than a ferrari when Robbia sees me hauling that one up
c. is what you said ...a rope ladder......and quite long too! sorry can't even begin to go there!

great option 'a ' sounds good I'll have a surf later too cheers

yeah, I think option 'a' is probably the best for me and I think also it is something you could make yourself anyway as there is not much to it!

Yes, it's cheap too but I'm not convinced...........I need to see someone use it 'cos after studying it closely it looks like the piece that goes through the stirrup basically closes off the stirrup stopping you putting anymore than just your toe in it ! also I'm thinking that looks quite close to the stirrup and am I going to be left hanging there trying to get my left leg .....................oh I don't know

must admit I'm not too convinced either with that one , I wander whether you have to start with the wrong foot and sort of climb on and end up with the feet correctly in the stirrups then you've got the faff of trying to get it off I suppose

Have you seen those things they have on the back of delivery lorries? The delivery men just stand there on a small platform and push a button to go up or down! Now THAT would be more like it............ failing that I'll have to try to teach Robbia to kneel
anyway I'm determined to go on a trek regardless. Where there's a will there's a way!

Thanks Rosemary , that one looks workable with Western style as the stuff is chunkier to accomodate devices .
I guess I'll have to keep leapfrogging on

Re: the extra stirrup for mounting. My OH made one and it is very simple and effective. I am vertically challenged and have short legs to boot so mounting my 15.2 hh boy causes me problems too, so saw these stirrup thingys on ebay, and OH came to the rescue and made one. I can put my foot in the normal stirrup and as soon as I'm settled just lift my foot up and take out the extra step stirrup. And its small enough to fit in a bump bag in case you need it on a trek.
