PostSubject: Cotes d'Amor   Members in dept 22 EmptySat Mar 13, 2010 2:43 am

Well technically I'm not in Cotes d'Amor right at this moment, I'm in Portugal, but moving to Brittany in May with my partner, Arab x Lusitano gelding and two rescue dogs.

We made our escape from the UK in 2004 by sea and sailed around the Spanish Rias, Portugal and the Med for a few years before settling on a farm in Central Portugal, but now feel it is time to move on and we are looking forward to making new friends in France.

On our travels we picked up two dogs, both abandoned on the streets one with a broken leg, and acquired a semi-rescued 5 year old horse (recently gelded). His previous owner couldn't afford to keep him any longer and he was begining to suffer from neglect. So we took him on even though he was entire at the time and I had no previous experience of handling stallions, but we have built up a bond and we both adore him. We keep him barefoot and he seems to be doing fine with that, I ride him in a treeless saddle, have played around bitless, but as he is very spirited have gone back to uses a bit for a while.

We are looking forward to being involved in a more horsey environment as there is little to do horsey wise here, although there are some lovely trails to ride. Our horse will love the green grass, there is so little of it here especially in the summer. And when we are settled we intend to get another horse to ride and a companion for my boy (preferably a rescue).

I think the forum is a great idea for information, advice and friendship and I will certainly be making use of it. We have a lot to learn about France (its Language, culture etc) and there is still much I need to learn about horses. So a big hello from us all here and hope to maybe meet up with some of you in the future. Members in dept 22 722859

Hello,

I am in 56, but am posting on here as i am one of the founders of Rohan Riders, we are trying to get a club together for horsey people with or without horses. many of us have moved over here with the joys of having our horses at home, only to discover it is actually rather lonely. and lack of advice and like minded people to talk to about problems etc is a little down heartening.

I will try and add info regarding vets, feed suppliers, dentists, farriers in due course.

keep an eye open for meetings, hopefully you will be able to join us!

My spec:- 1 16hh TB about 20 years old but still thinks he is 5!!, and a mini shetland! my daughter loans a 14.2 welsh sec c x arab x tb. only really for pleasure, as no simple competitions here like wot we used to have in uk Crying or Very sad so our outings consist of going on ballades with a french club.

Hopefully Rohan Riders will be able to organise some similar events, providing we can get transport for everyone involved.

Spread the word!!

Hi Rachels Legs

Yes I have already heard of the Rohan Riders from posts on the Anglo-Info Brittany and would be very interested in joining the club. There are very few people here in Portugal to share horsey experiences with and certainly no events to participate in, so I very much look forward to meeting you and the other members of the Rohan Riders. I will contact you via this site when we are settled in Brittany, which isn't too far away Members in dept 22 527682
I have a five year old, 15.2hh Anglo x Lusitano gelding, who still thinks he is a stallion (he was only gelded two months ago, so to be expected), he is very head strong and spirited, but lovely with it a real character.

Speak soon.

Hi Maycloud

Just noticed you have posted here too. We arrive in Corlay second week in May, when we get settled we shall have to meet up for a cup of tea. I have Arab x Lustitano gelding as mentioned above and we are going to get a second horse for my partner to ride and as a companion to my boy. Good to know there is some off road riding in the area.

See you around Members in dept 22 35522

That would be great to meet up. I'm about 25 mins from Corlay, it looks like you should have good hacking as there are some big woods up there, I'm near to the Brest to Nantes canal so use that as our main route it has loads of paths off and mainly quiet back roads, although tractor and lorries can be a bit of a problem as they don't see any need to slow down Members in dept 22 Affraid mind you a large Breton parked in the middle of the road does cause them to slow down Members in dept 22 Icon_wink I waved a bus to slow it down the other day, it totaly stopped and the driver asked it there had been an accedent further on up the road, it hadn't acured to him that a 50 seater bus doing 50 mph might cause a horse to spook!!!! needless to say that my boy is getting quite bomb proof Members in dept 22 Icon_biggrin
