| Hey Cally, I know the info you got from the farmer re jeanie a year and a half ago said she was dominant and i havent see this, however, can you maybe read this, your may have seen this behaviour from her? EVERYONE ELSE, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR ADVICE TOO! (never had a mare before. especially not one that has had 9 foals) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Thank you all in advance... Linda xxxxxx (sorry, the following is a bit long) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Jeanie and M G share a field with a shettie mare with her last years foal, a mini shettie and a highland cross. Last year when the shettie mare had 2 months before she was due to give birth, the owner fenced off a small section of field for her and the mini. All went well and two months after birth, the mother, foal and mini were allowed to join Jeanie, M G and the highland cross without any mishap. She is due to give birth again mid August. and is not in a fenced off area so, I dont know if that is the reason for the following........ Today, Jeanie attacked her twice, both times the wee soul broke through a fence cutting herself badly, (from the fence, not from bites etc) So, my question is, why did she do that? is it because Jeanie is jealous as the mare is about to give birth? I asked the owner if she is going to fence them off again this year and up until today (I thought so to) she thought there was no need as they all get on well. My worry is, and please help me out here, is, if they are not fenced off, the mare gives birth and Jeanie decides to take, or worse still, hurt the foal/ mother? is that a possibility? look forward to your comments/suggestions. Linda | |

The owner now away on holiday for a week, but., she knows whats going on and she went without changing things, so, if anything happens in the next week, hopefully not, then it wont come bak and haunt me. as for the wine Carolyn, well, my bott of rose is finished and now on a can of cider""" [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] no hope for me then... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] well, i suppose a park bench and a brown paper bag to conceal the Buckfast would numb the pain [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Sad news here guys....foal probably born late last nite in the main field, (no, owner did not corden them off but that was her choice) mare found down a steep embankment with foal this morning, foal had grazed face, swollen eye and broken back leg and was PTS.....there is no way the we fella could have walked from where he was born to a safe place with broken leg, vet thinks he did it falling down the embankment.....ps, none of the other hossys could have gone down there so i just know that his mum took him down there for safety..... I am so gutted as this could have been avoided and he would be running about like a happy normal foalie now, instead he is away to Rainbow Bridge.....so sad now especially for his mum who misses him terribly, this should never have happened.....so, I am calling him Boab, and thanks guys for being here and i do hope you join in with me and saying "have fun Boab over the bridge" [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Linda xxxx | |

| The sad part was, a part of the filed was getting cordoned off tomorrow for mum to give birth, but, that, obviously, was just too late. The owner of the farm, who owns the mare feels awful tonite for not doing it sooner....I am so angry as you all know about my concerns over a month ago when i first posted this....I do like the lady that owns the farm,. but cannot believe the way things have turned out... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Excuse my spelling, it worse than normal tonite as i have had a vino too many... | Real shame she was too late , most farms are busy so I guess that's why it happened but you voiced your concerns so you did what you could . Most times they would probably have been ok , really sadly this time luck wasn't on their side Take care xx | |

| they do say the saddest words are...
if only & too late,
i have heard them so often, usually after situations everyone else could see brewing for ages, i agree it is so frustrating when a simple action is put off and causes a disaster.
bye
