PostSubject: clipper blades, sharpening/replace in france or uk?   Thu Jul 01, 2010 12:01 pm

hi, i need to get my clippers going again, the blades are blunt, because i have started trying to clip saltie all summer to keep her cushings coat under control they are basically now kn*ckered,

so where can i get blades done? or where can i buy another set? or is it better to send the blade off to somewhere in the Uk if so where & how?

the make is haupner but quite an old set (Ebay!) and they are the coarsest blade, i know not a lot about clippers, i always used the yard ones back 'home' this is my first set of 'my' clippers.

poor saltie is steaming in her thick coat, she gets a hosepipe shower morning and night to wash out the sweat, but even in the shade she is uncomfortable.

help!!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] bye [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Simple answer 4 sets to sharpen over her 60 euro's and came back as blunt as they went, or, £6 a set in the UK.

I would always have Lister as when I was in the UK I had several years being a professional clipper and had shire horses clipped out. I had cause to complain to the company last year that my £350 was not that well spent as they only lasted 23 years! cheers

It seems a shame to change make though, if the old blades would fit a new haupner, as blades are expensive.

clippersharp in devon in england deals with all horse and farm cliippers inc; sharpening and hauptner: tele. 00441823681076 should be quick return in summer, also i have found in my extensive collection of junk a set of hauptner blades, whether they are from my old clippers which i sold 15 years ago, i can't say, and they are not the coursest ones, and i have'nt a clue if they are sharp or blunt, if you send your address i will put them in the post cause its worth a try, you could chop some coat off with the shear type scissors first.

Thanks for those contact details I shall send mine off to them. I would rather use tried and tested companies.

thanks for the blades offer, my clippers are old style, weigh a tonn & are not that quiet, but even with blunt blades they made it almost through her coat,

the ist time she was 'clipped out' i did the whole job with scizors, 3 pairs in all & a lot of finger blisters! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
thats why santa brought me an elderly set of clippers off Ebay [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
this time i did clip the bulk of with scizzors over comb as her full coat is at least 4 inch long [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

i will dig up the clippers and look at the blade codes etc and post 'em on here, i am not surprized that everyone pref' sending back to uk, not that many owners here seem to bother clipping as they don't ride much in rain etc [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] bbye [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

the clippers are hauptner electric rapide 120 watt
there is no code or any ID at al on either set of blades i have, a lot of waffle about hauptner quality made in Germany and thats it,
the blades are quite wide, & have 33 teeth (not inc the big ones on each end) on bottom blade & 17 on the top one,
can anyone tell me what other make of blade will fit them? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

This is a business run by an englishman, specialising in rugs and clippers. They have been in business for years and go to the salon de cheval etc. I know them as they are in the village next to ours.
We don't have clippers so I've no idea of cost but they are nice people & may be able to help.

I use a pressure washer on mine they love it. If you want to try it find one that cuts off when the trigger is deactivated.

Horsybird, our pressure washer takes the paint off our car, I'd hate to think what it might do to the horses [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] . I don't think I'd trust myself with it, I might end up with a hairless horse ( but at least I wouldn't need a hoover then [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] )

i used to hoover the dogs, with a cylinder model with a long hose, i opened that hole cover thing to drop the suction off a bit,& they all used to que up,
with up to 6 GSD's of different colours it was quicker to miss out the 'middle man' & hoover the dogs before the hairs got everywhere,

never tried it with the cats, mine are tollerant....but not that tollerant
