constructing a mobile field shelter Empty
PostSubject: constructing a mobile field shelter   constructing a mobile field shelter EmptyThu May 13, 2010 2:03 am

Has anyone successfully built one of these easily?
without it costing an arm & a leg in parts too.
We could do with making one for our two double ponies, as they are changing fields soon, and will need to be moved around in the new field.
needs to be easy to build, move, and cheap! plus mobile as no planning permission! (oops!)
any designs or photos muchly appreciated
thanks

I found these , [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] , you might be able to pinch some ideas , they are not cheap ... or get someone to knock up a square/ rectangle metal base and construct the top with polytunnel arches if you can find them and then the green mesh for a cover ? would be fairly lightweight but would need securing down well and lots of bracing bars study

when i asked our mairee's secretary she said there was no need for permission on animal shelters ( or just about anything temp) so long as it was not more than 2000 square feet, which is pretty darn big! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

the definition of temporary was it could be removed and leave no visible long term sign it had been there = so no concrete bases etc ok?

a few years ago i made 1 with old straw bales as walls one side a bale higher than the other, with poles on top and a tarp over the lot, you could improve this by using say a few metal sheets instead for a roof?

we knocked fence posts into the ground through the 1st few bale layers, then pushed more fence posts through the top bales into the lower bales, this survived quite a strong wind and the efforts of chance & gerry to eat it too.

i doubt even the most jobs worth of buzybodies could say this was not temporary?

good luck bye [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Straw is a great insulater too salée so it can make good shelters if as you say you can stop it from being eaten albino

another manufacturer - cheaper this time
