Very Happy Hi Rosemary!!!
yes I have bought sugar beet from Agrial!!!!
If you have bought the cubes then they tell you they should be covered with at LEAST 3 or 4 times as much water as to the amount of cubes ( I always put too much water but pour off the excess, better to be safe than sorry). They should be soaked for up to 24 hours.
Whereas if you have bought the shredded it should be soaked for 12 hours. Always better not to keep it too long too as especially in the summer it can go sour!
I had an anglo arab that had an allergy to it and it nearly killed him! Very Happy

Thanks Georgie Sugar Beet 72995 The sugar beet I bought are pellets and do not have any instructions on. (Everything I buy from Agrial seems to be in the same coloured bag!!!), so I was unsure whether to soak for 12 or 24 hours. I stupidly forgot to make some up this morning for tomorrow Sugar Beet 841287 hope the nags forgive me Sugar Beet 315995

also to hurry it up you can soak in hot water with the added benefit of it being warmer in the feed Wink

Also if you don't already its worth keeping it in a secure bin or whatever so no escapies can have a munch or visiters feed by mistake as a treat Rolling Eyes
I also have a note that I leave on top in case the in-laws take it upon themselves to give the horses a treat Rolling Eyes Very Happy

i use it made hot as an extra late feed in winter, just to top up the horses internal 'boilers' in this terrible weather. rendeer
if you use a boiling kettle to kick start it, then add more hot later and wait an hour or so its fine to feed once it has cooled enough, just so long as all the pellets/shreds have swollen properly,
my welsh A used to like his really sloppy, he would burrow his nose in to make a pit and drink the juice 1st, drunken
dilute sugar beet juice is a good re-hydration fluid after a show or after colic/diarrhea etc where the horse may need isotonic fluids not just water,
i found when i was young that students from southern UK did not seem to know about how to use it, it was more common up north is this still the same or has it gone national?

the shreds soak faster than the pellets do, we always left it a minimum of 12 hours, in warm weather you need to be careful of it fermenting, fermented SB will give them more than just a hangover! drunken if you get a vinegar smell its too old.

in the event your horse does pinch raw unsoaked SB, don't panic too much, most will cope so long as they had enough fluids in their stomach to begin with, my UK vet used to allow them water and just say keep a close eye on them and give no more food inc hay for a while, the welsh A mentioned above was an expert tack room door opener & bin lid lifter,if he got out he always made a bee line for the SB, & he never had colic in all his 25y.
