PostSubject: Damaged saddle   Damaged saddle EmptyWed Feb 24, 2010 7:37 am

I have a new Bates Innova dressage saddle, it has been used 10 times. i put it up on the top rack, and put a weather damp proof cover over it and a saddle cloth. I got it down today to use it, to find the cats had been using it as a launch pad to climb in and out of the tack room, there are loads of marks all over it!

there are some on the seat that I will not be able to do anything about because it has pierced the leather, but the other marks, I have put some softener on then and rubbed them hard, some look better.

Has anyone else got any other tips. I was thinking of smoothing with a hot spoon. Has anyone tried this.

Those blooming cats better stay out of my way I am livid!

Hi
A hot spoon, depending how hot, will flatten out the leather and make it shiny. Depending on the marks, I would use good quality boot polish and beeswax.

I have put some scuff polish on it and that has helped. Maybe with a good soaking it will lift them out, but as the saddle is so expensive I will ring a saddler in the UK. It is a flat and not rippled leather. Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks
Di

I have just spoken to Walsall Saddlers, and they have said plenty of saddle soap and time. with riding and wear it should get better. I know the two lines (amongst many) on the seat where there are perforated lines, that will not get better, but I will be sat on that! If there becomes a problem later on with it, I can always have the seat leather replaced.

I felt sick earlier when I found it. It's a once in a life time saddle and it's a mess!
