Dear Carolyn,
As a campaigner we wanted to update you on the latest developments on our campaign to end the long-distance transportation of horses across Europe to slaughter, and let you be the first to know about our latest Campaign Action. We need you to email your MEPs before September 18th to ask that they support amendments to a report on transportation that could improve conditions for horses.

The latest update:
In 2011, the European Commission released their report on the welfare of animals during transport. We supplied evidence to the Commission and asked you to raise your voice in support of horses. Despite recognising that ‘severe welfare problems persist’, we were dismayed that the report made no commitments to improving the transport regulation.

In response to this, the European Parliament’s Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) Committee began work on their own report, drafted by Janusz Wojciechowski, a Polish MEP. Once drafted, MEPs were able to propose amendments to the report – these are suggested changes that the MEP would like made. The public support for our campaign was vital in influencing the amendments suggested by MEPs.
The AGRI Committee will meet in September to discuss and then vote on each of the 274 tabled amendments. Those amendments which are accepted by the Committee will become part of the final report. This vote will take place on the 18th. So we now need you to add your voice to ensure that the amendments that will improve conditions for horses will be included in the report.
Once the Committee has voted on each amendment and a final version of the report has been agreed, the entire European Parliament will vote on whether or not they will adopt the report. We will be watching this very closely and may need to call on your support again.
MEPs are your representatives in Europe and every message you send in support of better horse welfare will make a difference.

Please add your voice again today to ask them to end the suffering of horses transported long distances across Europe to slaughter by voting for amendments to be included in the report that will help horses.
As a campaigner we need you to do more than just send your own email - please share our latest action wherever you can - on Facebook, Twitter, with family and friends, or further afield. You will shortly hear from us again as we launch the action to all supporters, and keep an eye out for our new campaign video.

| Very easy to do and so worthwhile and important for the transported horses to the abattoirs in Italy and beyond. Needs to be done before the 18th when the EU Agri committee is voting | |
