| I don't know about you, but the price of shoeing really seems to have gone up here, it's difficult for me to work out because I've had different farriers in to do different horses, and some visits have been just trims, some removes or refits, some a mix of the two, what I'm trying to say is never the same thing done twice:| Anyway, last time I had two horses shod, all round, he did refit one pair, the rest were removes, 124 euro's That seemed a "tad" expensive to me, UK prices!? What do you think? and if you don't mind me asking, what do you pay? pen [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] _________________ and I whispered to the horse, "trust no man in whose eyes you don't see yourself reflected as an equal"- Don Vincenzo Giobbe (circa 1700)

| WOW! is that just two horses or, when you say remove, does that mean he took shoes off other horses??? If its just two I would say thats extortion!! |

| I used to pay Chris Brown 65e per horse, that was each time he came. That included a 5e charge for road nails.! for a trim it was 20e. He has been gone ages now.
Since then like you Pen I have had different farriers, but never paid anything less than 60e for shoeing.
Thinking about it. Last time I had Merlin trimmed, and Eclipse re-fits, I am sure the bill was over a 100e.
The trouble is, we need it done, so what do you do:?: |

| I was paying 80e for a set and 20e for trims with the old farrier I am now paying 65e for a set and 25e for trims and he's a much better farrier, it just took me a while to source a good one When we left the UK nearly 3 years ago I was paying £60 a set and £15 for a trim but I was in an expensive 'horsey' area in the New Forest |

| as am back for 4 wks and paln to do a lot thought i'd try shoes this time to compare - mainly because i do far more mileage now than i did previously so thought i'd give shoes a try and compare - when i got him his feet were a mess - lot of old shoeing nail abcesses so as he's had 2 yrs unshod hoepfully his feet are better. am not looking forward to the lack of grip compared to boots on roads , but will see what suits. | you'll have to let us know how you get on scarlet, we just get six weeks out of our shoes but I guess if we upped our mileage it would be less, I wouldn't want to be spending 80 euro every 4-5weeks:affraid: pen _________________ and I whispered to the horse, "trust no man in whose eyes you don't see yourself reflected as an equal"- Don Vincenzo Giobbe (circa 1700)

| well he has a very nice set of shoes on with road nails and seems very happy in them. certainly better in mud, though traction better on rocks and roads with boots. will see how long these last him and how his hooves are after several shoeings. so far am pleased with them - tho they do cut up the paddock more and he moves around more in the trailer with shoes than he did with boots, even tho its got rubber matts. |
